Day Trips from Bern by Car

Bern is a peninsula formed by the meandering turns of the river Aare. It is in the center of Switzerland and is well connected with the rest of the country. Though it is only a small city, Bern is a place rich with history. When you are traveling to this wonderful place, you can have a Bern’s hire car to make your exploration easier.

With all the museums and historical places in the area, you might want to visit some of them. Just get in your hire car from Bern, and be ready to explore a city that is full of museums. You can go to the Berne Historical Museum, Swiss Alpine Museum, Invasion of Berne, Kunstumuseum (Museum of Arts), and the Zentrum Paul Klee, Monument of Frutchland. Upon visiting these museums, you will have more than enough knowledge about Bern already.

When you’re done visiting the museums, have a drive in your rental car and visit the historical Einsteinhaus where the legendary scientist Albert Einstein and his family stayed while he was working at the Swiss paten office. Numerous photos and original documents about Einstein’s life and work can be seen here.

Near the center of the old town, drive your Bern car hire and visit Zytglogge, The Clock Tower, which was built around the thirteenth century. Aside from telling the time, the clock also displays the date, the sign of the zodiac and the phase of the moon. Before the clock strikes to the hour, a little song and drumming are played. When it strikes to the hour, bears and an old bearded king do some acting. If your kids are with you, this is a must-see attraction.

Once you have visited all the historical places in the city, take a drive in your Bern car hire outside the city and visit Gurten Hill. Park your hire car in an area near the park and take a hike around the hill. Here, cows can be found grazing everywhere, so be careful when hiking. You can check out the wooden look-out tower that gives you an amazing view of the city of Bern and the panorama of the Bernese Alps.

Summers are the best days to go for a dip in the river of Aare. Park your rental car and go to the spot between Kornhausbridge and Lorraine, and between the Eichholz and Marzili. These two areas are great for swimming, are free of charge, and are definitely safe.

The city of Bern does not just offer you a taste of the city’s history but satisfaction in all the places you have visited with your Bern’s rental car. You will certainly want to be back once you have visited Bern.
