Geneva is Switzerland second largest city and has pictures views on one of the biggest alpine lakes. The city is filled with parks and promenades that almost make the city one giant garden in the summer.

Geneva is surrounded by French territory and its only connection to Switzerland is by the lake or a narrow corridor.

Many patriotic French believe this elegant and charming French speaking city should belong to France due to its close proximity, however Geneva is the nearest place the world has to an international city.

You would expect a city that is almost labeled with international status to have that certain pizzazz and megalopolis similar to that of London or New York, however that couldn’t be further from the truth. Geneva is not much bigger than the size of a town.

Similarly you might expect the streets to be filled with the nationalities of the world, in reality you will find it difficult not to eavesdrop on a conversation that wasn’t either in French or US accented English.
Geneva is in one of the most beautiful locations of the world, centered around the where the river Rhône flows out of Lake Geneva, flanked on one side by the peaks of Savoy Alps and the Jura ridges on the left .

The snow capped peaks of the Alps and Jura protruding out of deep forests and countryside is enough to persuade anyone to take up photography.

The cobbled Old Town of Geneva sits high on its central hill and at its heart is the Cathėdrale St-Pierre. Sprinkled all around are an array of top class museums such as the impressive gallery of East Asian art, the giant Musėe d’Art et d’Histoire and the Collections Baur.

For those rather more adventurous travelers, Geneva’s near by slopes offer world famous skiing resorts and golf courses scattered around the Lake Geneva.
One of the more famous landmarks of Geneva is the Jet d’Eau, which basically translates to water jet. This water jet or fountain is one of the largest fountains in the world. It is situated where Lake Geneva and the Rhône River meet but is visible throughout the city.

It was originally used as a safety valve for a hydraulic power network and can reach a maximum height of 90 meters. The fountain now operates during the day all year round unless there are particularly strong winds and is a must see at night between spring and autumn when it is illuminated.
