Sometimes referred to as Switzerland’s cultural capital, the largest city in Switzerland holds it own amongst the most beautiful cities in all of Europe.

The city is situated where the river Limmat meets Lake Zurich about 30 km north of the Alps. The city is surrounded by wooded hills of the Uetliberg and the Zűrichberg and is split in two by the Limmat River.

One of Zurich’s finest pleasures is taking a stroll along its quays which line the banks of Lake Zurich and the Limmat. If you would prefer to take it slightly easier then travel across the lake in the numerous sailboats and motorboats available.

The Old town of Zurich, Altstadt is one of the most prosperous and intriguing in Switzerland. The town is home to two giant cathedrals and numerous parks and gardens idea for those that prefer to explore the city at a lesser pace.
Surrounding the Old Town are the Kreis or districts of Zurich which are arranged in a clockwise formation around the city.

In the summer the view of the city is most beautiful as the lake acts like a large mirror reflecting the mountains and crystal clear blue sky.

If you cannot visit in the summer don’t worry as the winter snowfalls bring with them their own delights.

Zurich’s most popular sights include the Framȕnster and Grossȕnster churches which face each other across the Limmat River.

The old town spans the river creating a labyrinth of interesting lanes and clustered buildings along its banks. A nearby Roman customs post, the Lindenhof is the ideal vantage spot to truly capture the scenery.
